Team-Up to Fight Cancer

Local philanthropist and Seattle Seahawk, Grant Wistrom, is teaming up with Regency West Development Group, Curtis Gelotte Architects and Port Blakely Communities to help design an Old English-style pub in the entertainment room of a custom designed home in the Harrison Street neighborhood at Issaquah Highlands.

“We began this program of matching Northwest celebrities and their causes with our custom homes at Harrison Street as a way to celebrate the many ways people in this region reach out to help each other,” noted Tim Diller, Director of Finance, Port Blakely Communities, the master developer of Issaquah Highlands. “The room Grant designed will be a great place for entertaining, and we plan to try it out with some fund raising events to boost awareness for Grant’s work with children.”

The Grant Wistrom Foundation runs several programs, including local outreach days and the Circle of Friends program, which brings children with cancer together from all over the country for a five-day winter trip to Wisconsin that includes skiing, snowmobiles, tubing and disco bowling.

The Harrison Street neighborhood is unlike any other in the Northwest. “Our vision is to create a streetscape of custom homes with timeless and traditional architecture and elegant detailing reminiscent of Seattle’s legacy view neighborhoods like Laurelhurst, Madrona and Magnolia,” notes Judd Kirk, President of Port Blakely Communities. “To do this we have assembled teams of renowned architects and some of the regions finest custom home builders. This allows a buyer to choose the perfect homesite, then plan the home to fit this life story.” Currently there are several homes under construction, some for private buyers and some available for sale.

Issaquah Highlands is a new model of how to live in the Northwest, combining access to woods, trails, open space and parks with an urban-village lifestyle, including neighborhood shops and services. Issaquah Highlands is pedestrian and alternative transportation friendly with a network of sidewalks and trails, making it easy to walk or to bike from place-to-place.

Architecture and streetscapes are scaled for walking and biking with something interesting to look at and experience each step of the way. Many neighborhoods have front porches and homes close to the sidewalk to encourage social interaction.
