Help Build a New Trail!
We are currently recruiting volunteers to work with King County Parks to build a new trail connecting South Pond (south of tennis courts at Central Park) to the Grand Ridge Trail. There are three work parties scheduled–July 19, August 2, and August 16. Work day is 8:30am to 2:30pm. Bring a lunch, water, and wear boots. King County will provide gloves, tools and training. This is a fun and rewarding opportunity, and will provide a much-needed connection to the open space and trail network surrounding our community. To RSVP, please contact Whitney at 425-507-1135 or whitney.w@ihcommunity.org and provide name, phone, email, and which day you can attend.
Everyone’s Talking abut Toastmasters
“I’ve never met anybody who didn’t think that Toastmasters was super-valuable to their career.” Harvey Mackay, Author of Swim with the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive. Toastmasters helps you to develop your public speaking, communication and leadership skills. Those increased abilities open doors in your profession and personal life. Instead of spending thousands on costly seminars or laboring in an academic setting, you learn in a fun atmosphere of understanding and helpful fellowship with our co-workers. Now we are proud to announce that the Highlands Council is starting a new Toastmasters Club in Issaquah Highlands and you are invited to attend our first organizing meeting.
- Where: Blakely Hall
- Date: July 23, 2008
- Time: 12:00-1:00 pm
You’ll learn public speaking, how to conduct a meeting, how to listen effectively and how to provide constructive feedback. To reserve your seat, please contact Renee Zimmerman at 425.507.1137 or at renee.z@ihcouncil.org.

Bear Safety Reminders
Yes, there are black bears in the surrounding woods. We all need to do our part to make sure the bears (and raccoons and coyotes) do not get used to finding food in our neighborhoods.
- Do NOT put out your garbage and recycling until the morning of pick-up.
- Trash Cans must be kept fully closed and secured shut by a bungee cord, clip or similar device at all times except during the Pickup Period.
- Clean your BBQ after each use or store in your garage.
- Do not put bird feeders in your backyard.
Educate yourself and your family on what to do if you encounter a bear.
See the Department of Fish & Wildlife website: http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/blkbear/blkbear.htm. You may report sightings to WDFW at 425-775-1311. They will only take action if the bear is a threat.
Please see www.ihwebsite.com and your monthly Connections newspaper for more details on what’s happening in our community!
