they marked the official opening of this contemporary Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. Agavé is the plant that tequila is made from and inspired the name of the restaurant which offers over 90 types of tequila to chose from. The inviting family friendly atmosphere and authentic Mexican fare have made Agavé a popular destination for many. Be sure to visit the Agavé family at 1048 NE Park Drive. The transformation is complete.
Marcela’s Mexican Grill is re-opening with not just a new name, but also an entirely new and mouth-watering menu. Marcela’s has been re-named Agave Cocina & Tequilas as part of an exciting re-model that involves every aspect of the restaurant. Depending on when you read this article, Agave may have already opened its doors! The new Agave Cocina & Tequilas features contemporary Mexican food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Wallet-friendly prices and fresh flavors are all part of what makes Agave special.
Many of Agave’s menu items are meant for sharing, so you can sample several items as part of your dining experience. Time-honored favorites include a selection of quesadillas, enchiladas, salads and tacos. Enticing new dishes include corn crusted halibut tacos, smoked bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, ceviche de camarones, masa crusted calamari, the Marcela grande burger, and pescados fritos.
Everything will be made from scratch in Agave’s kitchen, including sauces, fillings, tortillas, and guacamole. The new menu also features fresh, natural ingredients, free-range chicken and organic eggs, hormone-free beef and pork, organic rice and beans, plus wild salmon and prawns. It’s no secret that a highlight of Agave will be their tequila offerings. In fact, it’s the inspiration for the restaurant’s new name. Tequila is made from the agave plant. According to owner Julian Ramos, the agave plant has been part of his family’s heritage: “Both sides of my family are from the state of Jalisco, which is the only state in Mexico where the agave plant can grow naturally. Several of my relatives
have grown it for decades.” “My brothers and I were born and raised in the beautiful state of Jalisco,” continued
Ramos. “Part of our heritage is a deep understanding of what makes a high-quality tequila and the dynamic flavors that make contemporary Mexican food so popular. We look forward to sharing this delicious food with our neighbors
in Issaquah.”
The changes at the restaurant aren’t only in the kitchen. The interior of the restaurant has been transformed to offer a warm and inviting environment with unique architectural details. Agave’s new look includes bright colors and a fresh
spin on traditional design. The re-design was inspired by the famous Barcelona church La Sagrada Familia, which was the masterwork of architect Antoni Gaudi. The church has enormous mosaic fruit baskets atop its towers and magnificent mosaics. It has been a major tourist attraction in Spain for years. Now, part of that inspiration has found a
home in Issaquah Highlands. Located at 1048 NE Park Drive, Agave Cocina & Tequilas is open seven days a week. You can view their menu at www.agaverest.com. Watch for happy hour specials every day of the week.

Kumon Learning Centers has opened a new location in Issaquah Highlands. Located across from scenic WSDOT pond, Kumon offers math and reading enrichment programs for children ages 3 to 18.
Kumon Center director Cindy McVay chose the Issaquah Highlands location to be closer to more Kumon families.
The majority of their students live in Issaquah Highlands, making the new location on Park Drive an ideal situation. “We’re so pleased to be here in Issaquah Highlands,” said McVay. “This community is home to about two-thirds of our students, so it’s the most convenient location possible. Now that the good weather is coming, we hope that many students will walk or bike here. We’re looking forward to sharing the benefits of Kumon with as many families as possible.”
More than four million children throughout the world have already benefitted from the Kumon method, which helps students master the basics of reading and math while improving study habits and self-confidence. “Kumon Issaquah was recently awarded Gold Elite status,” continued McVay. “Gold Status is based on the academic performance of our students. Much of this success can be attributed to our excellent local schools and teachers, as well as the dedication of parents.
We look forward to building on this success in our new Issaquah Highlands location.” In addition to Kumon Issaquah, McVay is also director of the Kumon center in Snoqualmie. Kumon established its first Issaquah location in 2004. The Kumon method was founded in Japan more than 50 years ago and is now an international franchise organization. The program, which focuses on maximizing each child’s potential, is a supplement to school-based curriculum.
Kumon Issaquah is located at 1036 NE Park Drive. For more information, visit www.kumon.com.

Marcela’s Mexican Grill will soon become Agave Cocina & Tequila Bar. Our favorite local Mexican restaurant is temporarily closed for a makeover. When work is complete, Marcela’s won’t just look different, it will have an enticing new food and bar menu as well.
Set to open in six weeks, the new Agave Cocina & Tequila Bar is a contemporary gathering place featuring a delicious menu at an affordable price. True to its new name, specialty drinks, delectable margaritas and a large selection of tequilas will also be a focal point of the dining experience.
Everything at Agave Cocina & Tequila Bar will be new. From lighting to tiles, you’ll see a complete change. The menu will still have some traditional favorites, but you can expect fresh dining adventures as well. What won’t change is the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful meal close to home, either in the restaurant or out on the patio. Construction will be in full swing through the end of June. Watch for the grand opening of Agave Cocina & Tequila Bar in early July.
