HFNVoice is a unique telephone service package brought to you through your fiber network. You can have the newest calling features, excellent voice quality, inexpensive prices and great technical service with a simple call or email. HFNVoice is only available to HFN Internet subscribers and no contract is required. Our plans are priced much lower than traditional telephone service pricing to fit every budget.

Both plans come with the many features needed for your home use. Unlike other phone services, HFNVoice is provided on a separate path, or VLAN, from that used for your Internet service. This means that voice quality isn’t affected by your internet usage and is consistently superior. All HFNVoice subscribers will receive the same comprehensive package of calling features including caller ID, multiple call forwarding options, voicemail, 911, last call return, 3-Way calling and an online account and control panel. Anonymous call rejection, outgoing call barring, call logs, speed dial manager and music on hold are also standard features. Subscribers can use the features that fit their needs.

There are two plans to choose from, depending on your long-distance usage. For residents who primarily use their phone for local calling in the 425 and 206 area codes, the HFNVoice Local Plan will meet your needs for only $9.99 per month. Calls throughout the U.S. and Canada, except for Alaska and Puerto Rico, are an additional 3.8¢ per minute. For those who need more flexibility for long-distance calling, the HFNVoice Continental Plan at only $24.99 per month is available. This plan allows unlimited calling locally and throughout the U.S. and Canada, except for Alaska and Puerto Rico. Low long distance fees apply to both plans for calls made outside the U.S. and Canada, based on rates easily available online.

HFNVoice can be used with existing phone jacks and will work with most telephones. You can also keep your current phone number subject to a one-time transfer fee and order additional phone numbers for a monthly fee of $3 each.

HFNVoice is an email or telephone call away and setup is relatively easy. Professional installation assistance is also available for a small fee. Order your HFNVoice service today at www.highlandsfibernetwork.com/voice, hfnsupport@hfnservices.com or 425-427-0999!

The holidays for many people means cheerful gatherings of friends and family, practicing long-standing traditions or establishing new ones, and eating lots of delicious food. But along with these wonderful parts often comes the stress of holiday shopping. A suggestion to help minimize the stress so that you can enjoy the holidays more is to visit the Issaquah Highlands Holiday Gift and Craft Bazaar.

Why visit the Bazaar? Because by shopping at the Holiday Bazaar taking place in Blakely Hall, you will be saving time and money on gas while supporting local artists and home-based retailers. Not to mention all of the unique gifts that you will find there for your loved ones, teachers, and co-workers. Bring a non-perishable food item for the Issaquah Food Bank collection bin at the door, and you will be helping another family enjoy their holiday meal. Purchase a Discovery Toy product from my booth, and 5% of profits go to Eastside Baby Corner. Entrance is free and gift wrapping will be available for a donation.

You will leave with wonderful gifts wrapped and ready to go while helping others—all without ever leaving your own neighborhood! The Holiday Gift and Craft Bazaar is taking place at Blakely Hall on November 15, from 10am-3pm. Hope to see you there!

When I was twelve years old I was able to participate in an electric car “race” around Green Lake. It wasn’t much of a race to be honest. I was riding in the passenger seat of a Volkswagen Bug that had been converted to electric. The car was only able to go 35 M.P.H. After an hour of driving the batteries went dead and our family friend who was driving the car rolled into the nearest pub and ordered a beer.

This was my first exposure to alternative forms of energy. At the age of twelve I became convinced that every car in the world would soon be electric. For my science fair project in school that year I focused on solar energy. This was when solar powered calculators were all the rage. I then made the connection in my head that someday solar panels would not only power our handheld calculators, but also provide the energy for our electric cars.

Twenty three years later we were able to make my childhood dream a reality. A Seattle Times article in July of 2006 talked about a new electric car being produced by a company in California that could travel 250 miles on a single battery charge. This same car was able to go 120 M.P.H., a big improvement over the converted electric Volkswagen. We were one of the first families to put down a deposit for this new vehicle. Another Seattle Times article this spring talked about the success of solar energy in the Pacific Northwest. We called one of the solar companies mentioned in the article and found out more information about solar energy and how it would work in Issaquah.

The homes in Issaquah Highlands offer a rare opportunity for maximum solar exposure. Our home has roof lines with southern facing exposures (we discovered this is very important in solar world). We also have roof lines that are not in the shade during any part of the day. That means we can produce up to 10,000 kilowatts of electricity in a year, enough to meet the needs of a normal Seattle household.

The solar panels were installed in September, and the new electric car will be delivered this month. The electric car will use roughly 2,000 kilowatts of electricity a year. We will still be connected to the regular electricity grid, so our lights will stay on during the rainy winter months.

People often ask us about the economic benefits of solar energy. Because the technology is new, there is not a financial benefit to solar. We are making this decision for environmental reasons, not because it will save us money. In the long run, if enough people buy solar panels for environmental reasons, then the cost will drop to a point where it will also make financial sense. That will be the “tipping point” for solar energy. We are hoping that our purchase of solar panels this summer makes it more affordable for the next consumer who decides to harness the power of the sun.

It’s like speed dating…only for houses! The 2nd Saturday Home Tour, a once-a-month event, will include both resale and new homes in Issaquah Highlands open for visits on a single day. The first 2nd Saturday event was held on September 13th and received a great deal of positive comment and tour participants. Additional 2nd Saturday Home Tours are scheduled for October 11th, November 12th and December 13th. The 2nd Saturday Home Tour gives visitors and residents alike an opportunity to view the latest offerings — from live-work lofts, condominiums and single-family homes to luxury view and estate homes. It turns out that looking at new homes is a popular activity for many Issaquah Highlands residents. One Issaquah Highlands’ homebuilder reports that nearly 40% of recent sales have come from people who already live at Issaquah Highlands.

Free tour maps are available at the Highlands Info Center, located at 1011 NE High Street, Suite 103 or call 206-701-0350. www.issaquahhighlands.com
