A 'Green' Home Starts with a 'Green' Community:
A major head start in achieving a high Built Green rating can be in choosing a new home in a certified Built Green community.
Issaquah Highlands was the first community in the Northwest to be certified "Built Green with a commitment to sustainable
development that began at the earliest stages of land planning. In a continuing effort to tread lightly on the land, Port Blakely
Communities paid a great deal of attention to environmental stewardship. All builders in Phase Two (those new homes currently on the
market) have agreed to meet a minimum of Built Green 3-star level, the highest level in the program.
Now Highlands residents are encouraged to become familiar with their role as continuing stewards of a sustainable community and,
when possible, become involved in using less, recycling more and generally leaving our community a better place than when they found
it. Built Green community initiatives at Issaquah Highlands include special measures to protect water quality and habitat for fish
and wildlife, water quality and water conservation features for both the community and homeowner, transportation solutions to
encourage mass transit, walking and biking and to reduce individual car trips, and training on what homeowners can do to become
better stewards for present and future generations.
