City of Issaquah Awards Issaquah Highlands for Leadership in Green Building

The City of Issaquah has given special recognition to Port Blakely Communities by naming Issaquah Highlands a leader in Building Green for 2004. “The city is recognizing Port Blakely for a number of 'sustainable' initiatives over the past year,” said Joe Coakley, Vice President, Residential Sales for Port Blakely Communities.

“The city lauded Port Blakely for encouraging homebuilders to increase the 'green performance' of every home by going from a '3-Star' to a '4-Star' level for all future new homes. The city also gave acclaim to Port Blakely for its leadership in requiring that Fire House #73, Blakely Hall and the first phase of the new High Street retail center meet the LEED standards of sustainable performance, as established by the U.S. Green Building Conference.

Along with the development efforts, special recognition was offered for Port Blakely’s leadership in the Puget Sound Energy Built GreenTM Idea Home project, which exposed over 8,000 potential home buyers to the advantages of a “green” lifestyle.

Additionally, the Issaquah City Council recognized Issaquah Highlands builder Bennett Homes as “Green Builder of the Year” citing their participation as the Idea Home builder and their efforts to educate customers on the advantages of a Built Green Home.
