Ask the IHCA

This Month: Mailbox Keys, Abandoned Cars, Holiday Lights

The “Ask the IHCA” monthly column appears in the IHCA section of Connections almost every month. The primary purpose of the IHCA is to preserve, maintain, enhance, and protect the value of property and amenities in the community in accordance with the governing documents. Here are a few of the most popular questions asked recently using the “Ask the IHCA” web form.

I have lost the only key to my mailbox and would like to change the lock to new one. Can you please share what the procedure is? Can I replace the lock by myself?

Yes, you can certainly replace the lock yourself or ask USPS to assist you with this. The locks can be purchased at any hardware store or you can request USPS perform it for you. The contact number for the Issaquah USPS office is 425-837-8795.

A car has been parked across the street from us for two weeks and it hasn’t moved at all. Is that acceptable?

City of Issaquah only permits vehicles to be parked without moving for 72 hours. In addition, the vehicle must have current license tabs, and be in good working order. To report the abandoned vehicle on a city street, please use the City of Issaquah “report a concern” tracker by using this link:

How soon are you allowed to turn on Christmas lights on your home? Many people have them strung early and then leave them on from October thru the new year.

Per the IHCA Use Restrictions and Rules (URRs), winter holiday decorations and lighting (including light clips) may be displayed from October 1st through January 15th.

The IHCA is happy to receive all of your inquires and are here to help. Submit your question to Ask the IHCA >>
