Kumon Math and Reading Center Opens in Issaquah Highlands

After-school program supports Issaquah, Bellevue and Sammamish children

Issaquah, Wash. (May 30, 2009) —Kumon Math and Reading Center has opened its doors in Issaquah Highlands. Kumon, an after-school math and reading program for children ages three to 18, works with families from the Issaquah Highlands and Klahanie communities, as well as greater Issaquah, Bellevue and Sammamish. Located 20 minutes east of Seattle along the I-90 corridor, Issaquah Highlands is an urban village developed by Port Blakely Communities.

“We selected Issaquah Highlands because it is a growing community where families make education a high priority,” said Cindy McVay, director, Kumon of Issaquah. “About two-thirds of our students live in Issaquah Highlands and we’re thrilled that many can walk or bicycle to Kumon. It’s an ideal location.”

Kumon of Issaquah, which was recently awarded Gold Elite status for its students’ academic performance, opened its first Eastside location in 2004. McVay attributes the success of students to the outstanding local school boards of Issaquah, Lake Washington and Bellevue.

Kumon is located at 1036 NE Park Drive in Issaquah Highlands, directly across from the new pond and walking area. Kumon is adjacent to restaurants such as Caffe Ladro, Sip Wine Bar & Restaurant, Agave Cocina & Tequilas Restaurant, Subway and Ricenroll. Nearby services include Curves, Occhio Optometry, Highlands Cleaners and Sorella Salon and Spa.
